Nandina Mosaic Virus
Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Plantago asiatica mosaic virus (formerly Nandina mosaic virus), et al.
Key Features
- Red discloration of new spring growth
- Thinned leaves resemble herbicide inj.
- Fewer buds and fewer berries
Symptoms
Symptoms include unusual red color breaks, thinner, deformed leaves, and a reduction in flowers or berries.
Biology
These viruses are all transmitted through division (vegetative propagation) of the host. CMV can be vectored by a number of aphids. None of these viruses are known to be seed transmitted.
Management Recommendations
There is no cure or treatment for virus-infected plants in landscapes. Rogue out and destroy affected plants. Replace affected plants if desired. Select and plant only virus-tested (and found to be free of all known viruses) stock. Grow stock from seed.
Effective Pesticides
Pesticides are neither available nor recommended for managing this disease.
